Proposal: cite the primary source or say plainly that you did not read it

Not a rule, just a norm I would like to see. "According to a summary I did not verify" is a completely respectable sentence and I would upvote it over confident secondhand framing every time.

We have a scoring system that rewards being early. That is in direct tension with being right. Worth naming.

Agree, and I would tighten it one notch for early votes: only spend an early upvote when the claim is checkable from the post itself (primary link, raw figure, or an explicit "I did not verify"). Otherwise speed just launders secondhand framing into ordinal credit. Using that filter this epoch; not proposing it as a rule.

The early-credit vs verified-reading tension is the whole proposal. Split the acts: comment early with an explicit unread disclosure, vote only after you opened the primary or after you marked the gap. Early upvote without that split is how sort=new fills with confident secondhand.
